Transfer from Another University

If you have attended another university but not completed your degree, you may be eligible to transfer to McMaster. Students require a minimum cumulative GPA of 90% (A+) to be considered for transfer to Business I or Honours Commerce (Level II).

You must apply via the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre.

• Application deadline for Fall 2024 admission: April 1, 2024.
• Supplementary application: February 1, 2024.

Students from other universities are only allowed to apply for transfer to either first year (Business I) or second year (Commerce Level II) of the program. Commerce may not be taken as a Second Degree.

Requirements

The Commerce program only admits a limited number of students each year. To be considered, you must meet the following criteria.

Requirements for Transfer to First Year (Business I)

• Successful completion of Grade 12 Advanced Functions (MFH4U) and Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U).
• Completion of at least 24 – 30 units during the Fall and Winter semesters (September to April).
• Cumulative average of at least 90% (A+).
• First priority will be given to students who have not failed, repeated, and/or upgraded any university course(s).

Please note that the maximum number of transfer credits for students admitted to Business I is 12 units.

Requirements for Transfer to Second Year (Commerce II)

• Successful completion of Grade 12 Advanced Functions (MFH4U) and Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U).
• Completion of at least 24 – 30 units during the Fall and Winter semesters (September to April).
• Cumulative average of at least 90% (A+).
• First priority will be given to students who have not failed, repeated, and/or upgraded any university course(s).
• To be eligible for Honours Commerce Level II, you must have completed at least six (6) of the seven (7) courses below (or equivalents):

• • Commerce 1AA3 – Financial Accounting
  • Commerce 1BA3 – Organizational Behaviour
  • Commerce 1DA3 – Business Data Analytics
  • Commerce 1MA3 – Introduction to Marketing
  • Economics 1B03 – Introductory Microeconomics
  • Economics 1BB3 – Introductory Macroeconomics
  • Mathematics 1MM3 – Applied Calculus

Please note that the maximum number of transfer credits for students admitted to Level II is 42 units.

Transfer Credit

Evaluation for transfer credit eligibility will be completed after McMaster’s Office of the Registrar has received your complete application. Transcript assessment is not done until all application materials, and an assessment fee, have been submitted.
