Collaboration with industry, including accounting firms and regulatory bodies, is key to DeGroote’s Accounting and Financial Management Services Area. Most faculty hold professional designations, such as CPA and CFA, as well as academic credentials including PhDs. This collaboration ensures that research conducted by faculty is relevant to the accounting profession and also that student learning is aligned with industry practice.
Faculty members are highly cited and publish in top tier journals including the Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Management Accounting Research, and the Journal of Banking & Finance.
DeGroote’s accounting program emphasizes the fundamental theories and current issues in the field. Accounting courses in both the honours commerce and MBA programs are recognized by professional accounting organizations in Canada, and students are eligible to obtain advanced standing for earning a professional accounting designation.
