Registration Tips from our Academic Advisors
2023-2024 enrollment begins on June 19.
Here are some tips from DeGroote’s Academic Advisors:
1. Plan ahead and have your schedule ready to go for when enrollment opens.
2. Pick electives that you have an interest in, not just because one of your friends said it was easy. Visit the Course Listings page to find interesting electives.
3. Start working towards a Minor using your non-commerce electives.
4. Personal Interest Courses can be used in level 2 and above if you have an interest in an elective course but you are not sure how you will do on it. PICs counts as Pass or Fail courses and will not be included in your cGPA (but you will retain the units). More information can be found at: registrar.mcmaster.ca
5. Don’t panic if the Commerce courses you want are full when you go to register. Closer to September, students change around their courses, and spots generally open up.
6. If you are a final-year student, make sure to check your Advisement Report to see if you are satisfying all your program requirements. You can find your Advisement Report in Mosaic by clicking on the OWL icon. If unsure, please double-check with an Academic Advisor.
7. Please do NOT register and hold seats in the same course for both terms if it is a single-term course. This prevents other students from getting seats in preferred sections of required and elective courses.
8. Reserved Seat Capacity: A small number of seats will be reserved for students who require these courses as part of their degree requirements. Reserve capacity is lifted on a rolling basis. The Faculty of Business only oversees reserve capacity for Commerce courses. If you have questions about non-Commerce reserve capacity, you must reach out to the Faculty who administers these classes.
9. Closed Course: When a course is closed, the Student Experience team cannot enroll students into a closed section of a course. There are no waitlists and instructors cannot give seat authorizations. Check back on Mosaic from time to time. Schedules will be changing between now and the add/drop date.
10. Relax, enjoy your classes, and have a great year!
