Missing Course Work? Review The Policy To Understand Your Options
The University recognizes that students periodically require relief from academic work for medical or other personal situations.
Please note: A Notification of Absence or MSAF cannot be used for academic work that has already been completed or attempted. Attempting online work includes opening a test/quiz on Avenue to Learn or other platforms.
Notification of Absence Form: Requesting Relief for Missed Course Work Worth 25% or Higher
- Fill out the Notification of Absence form and submit to buscom@mcmaster.ca. You have five (5) business days from the date of the missed course work to complete this process.
- Attach any supporting documentation confirming your absence.
- Review the Missed Course Work Policy to determine what documents you require
- Important: If you are expected to miss a scheduled midterm, you must submit the Notification of Absence and supporting documentation confirming your conflict ten (10) business days before your scheduled midterm if you wish to be eligible for an alternate write. Any requests received within the 10 days, on the day of, or after the originally scheduled exam (or if you do not wish to partake in an alternate write) will be left to the decision of the instructor for how the missed marks will be made up or reweighted
MSAF: Requesting Relief for Missed Course Work Worth Less than 25%
- The self-submitted McMaster Student Absence Form (MSAF) is only to be used for absences of 25% or less over a three (3) calendar-day period.
- Learn more about the MSAF and access this online self-reporting tool on Mosaic (in the drop-down under Academics)
