Meet Your BCom CPD Team – Featuring Karam Noel
The Career and Professional Development (CPD) team delivers innovative excellence in three key areas: Career Development, Strategic Employer Partnerships, and Experiential Learning. The team supports BCom, MBA, MFin, and MSc in eHealth students in securing summer, co-op, internship, and new grad job opportunities during their full-time studies at DeGroote.
Meet Karam Noel, Relationship Manager:
What do you do and how long have you been at DSB? In October 2022, I joined the CPD team as a Relationship Manager – Early Career Development. My role focuses on the successful integration of career exploration and development within Commerce and IBH students’ first and second year of study through curriculum (GR0, LD0, 2IN0), career workshops/webinars and coaching sessions focused on networking, personal branding, leadership development, resume/cover letter critiques and job search, among other topics. Before this, I worked as an Instructional Assistant (II) with the MELD Office for nearly five years, providing pedagogical, administrative, and instructional support across three distinct language programs with unique target audiences: pre-university undergraduate students, graduate students, and current McMaster students and staff.
What is the best piece of advice you would give a new student? Bring your ‘authentic self’ into your networking and work interactions. It will go a long way in helping you form deeper connections – which are integral to career success and growth.
What is your favourite hobby? Hiking with my dog, Milo.
What is your favourite book or podcast? Psychology in 10 Minutes by David B. Feldman
Other fun fact about yourself you would like to share with our students? I love learning languages and experiencing other people’s cultures.
