Postponed shipments, empty store shelves, microchip shortages and furniture delays. Today’s consumer has been at the forefront of a supply chain system that is under immense stress. The question we all have is: how does this affect me?
Lillo Puma, B.Com. ’00, Vice President Supply Chain, Central Services at Walmart Canada, discusses the intricacies of supply chain management systems and how it specifically affects us, the consumer.
Joined by Dr. Elkafi Hassini, Professor, Operations Management, they will explore topics including:
- How the pandemic has magnified existing stresses in global supply chains
- How economic growth and inflation are impacted by supply chain crisis
- How consumer behaviour both positively and negatively influence supply chains
- A forecast of what consumers can expect in 2022 and beyond

Notes
Lillo has been with Walmart Canada for 11 years. He currently leads the Supply Chain Central Services team which is responsible for all supporting activities of the operations across the supply chain. These include teams leading integrated planning, engineering, quality assurance, vendor compliance and network/flow planning. Prior to that, he led the replenishment teams in Consumables, Health and Wellness, and Grocery. Prior to joining Walmart Canada, Lillo worked for 10 years with The Hudson Bay Company where he had responsibilities in many supply chain roles throughout the organization. Lillo holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University as well as a Masters certificate in Supply Chain and Logistics Management.
Dr. Elkafi Hassini specializes in data-driven optimization with applications in supply chain management. His current research interests include big data optimization, supply chain analytics, supply chain risk management, sustainability performance measurement and strategic procurement. His research has been funded by several funding agencies including CFI, MRI ORF-RI, NSERC and SSHRC. His research has also been recognized through best paper awards and the faculty researcher of the year award. He teaches supply chain management, procurement operations management and applied optimization.
